Did you know that Saturday June 19th “Juneteenth” marks the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were the last in the United States to receive word that they were freed, over two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. As we reflect on the racism, violence, and injustice that has plagued our society for centuries, we often feel powerless against the systems ingrained in our world. It’s important to take time to recognize its place in American history and reflect on the long struggle for equal rights – and how far we have to go. #history#politics#rights#justice
