Life of School Lunch

Working in a lunchroom is not an easy job especially, in fact, society really does not give lunch ladies enough credit for the level of the work they do. A lot of time and effort goes into preparing each meal for a community of those affected by a global pandemic of this proportion. The hours of standing on their feet can be strenuous and the heavy lifting can hurt their backs. Feeding a community of children in need is not an easy task but one that is very rewarding.

The life of school lunch has certainly changed since March 13, 2020. Temporarily gone are the days of lunchroom chatter and unrecognizable meatloaf entree. As of March 16, 2020 “Social distancing has been a key measure that must be implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19. School food service programs starting adding curbside pickup. Our nations schools remain committed to supporting families to ensure no child goes hungry during these unprecedented times. School Nutrition programs are working tirelessly to provide nourishing meals to students impacted by school closures.
School nutrition staff or lunch ladies are working on the front lines offering free meal services to children, ages 2-18, living in communities throughout the United States. The joy in all of this is feeding of kids is to see there happy faces as they gather their free lunch and wave with big smiles.
