How many times do you hear about school lunch and think ugh. Yesterday was the day that I thought about my childhood and how awesome eating lunch at school was. School lunch had many meanings, it meant I was not hungry in the middle of the day and it meant that I got to sit with my friends and talk about anything that an eight year old me wanted to talk about. School lunch has a multitude of feeling for me, it is the place where I got to catch up with friends and if we were lucky, it was peanut butter square day, that was my favorite protein snack at lunch time . After my tummy was all full of course it was time for recess, to run and play care freed.
Yesterday, was a day that school lunch made me smile as I thought about the 19k meals served to kids in the city of Downey, It was a proud moment for me, the team that I work so closely with pulled together to make lunch happen, just as they do every other school day before and after Covid-19 changed our lives. The team consists of 65 employees in all, I must say lunch ladies rock to the tune of nineteen thousands meals served with a smile that no one could see behind a paper mask. Its funny how things change yet remain the same.
