This is about my life on the front line. The front of the lunch line that is. I have spent more than two decades feeding America’s future and being an integral part of the cycle of learning for youth in schools.
Feeding students in the wake of a pandemic has taken quite a bit of work. The entire world is under siege of Covid-19 and feeding kids is an essential job for school nutrition employees. School district nutrition service programs throughout our nation are rallying to provide meals for safe at home students throughout the country. The goal is to encompass as much of our school age student population as possible with healthy and nutritious meals during these uncertain times.
My team is responsible for producing meals for a local student population. Our district has dispersed poverty and we need to make sure we are serving our entire community, especially those without income right now. Being on the front lines is both challenging and demanding and is now six feet away from exposure. Everyday is met with uncertainty about what and who we will encounter, is the virus in the next car riding along with the family that is stopping by the local cafeteria to get lunch for the 3rd grader? That is food for thought isn’t it!
